The challenge with Last Man`s Tucker was for McDonald to step away from his comfort zone of band-based power pop, putting himself upfront. Accompanied by an acoustic guitar and, maybe a harmony vocal, McDonald easily steps into the role of solo troubadour. His rich, reedy voice chiming acoustic guitar, unobstructed production and introspective songs, reveals a more personal side than his efforts with his previous outfits P76 and Jericho. McDonald felt this batch of songs lent itself to a solo effort. He was, indeed, correct as the result is a gorgeous acoustic pop record. -- Jeff Weiss, Miles of Music (self-released)
