Description:
The magic of this duo, that performs a twangy, countrified brand of folk, is that their vocal harmonies are so well matched. Quite stunning, actually, as they launch into the opening track, "Georgia Pine", of this powerful performance recorded live at Paige Auditorium in Durham, NC on March 24, 2003. Their chilling dynamic maintains a sad beauty all the way to the end of this 7-track EP, which features two tracks from Irion`s debut Unity Lodge ("DC Niner", "Thirty Inch Coal") and one from Guthrie`s self-titled debut ("River"). There is also a waltzing cover of Hoyt Axton`s "In A Young Girl`s Mind". The final three tracks find the two assisted by Sarah`s dad Arlo on guitar, harmonica and vocals, and brother Abe on keys and vocal. It`s a family affair when husband and wife (Johnny and Sarah) join father and brother to end with an adaptation of Grandfather Woody`s risqu lyric "There`ll Be No Church Tonight". (Rte. 8 Records)
