Some Kinda Happy, the sophomore effort by Los Angeles-based Weed Patch, showcases songwriter Neal Weiss`s growing understanding and restless acceptance of the world around him. Weiss explores life`s totems, finding them flawed and maybe not as relevant. Maturity, though, finds him happier and more at peace with smaller moments. Producer Seth Rothschild returns and Centro-matic`s Matt Pence comes on board to mix, while the backing Patch has changed and soldified into a confident, exploratory group. Drawing from influences as obvious as LA`s psychedelic-influenced `80s Paisley Underground, Athens jangle pop and millennium studio tweaking, Some Kinda Happy is an excellent song cycle and satisfying album reflecting on growing old, but more importantly, growing up.
