Randy Burk puts an organic and human edge on a pleasing set of contemporary country songs that are enriched with honky-tonk, outlaw and classic country elements. If it`s the singer, not the song, then on Down To This you get both! His throaty and coarse tone commands these numbers, many written by Burk and some co-written with keyman Jared Hall; and a couple from songwriter Jimmy Little as well. A fairly diverse set with moments of bluegrass ("Lay It On Me") and old-timey depression folk ("Out Of My Mind") too. Burk proves he can effectively translate a sentimental and touching song ("It All Falls Through") as well as any big rockin` boogie woogie country tune, such as the title track, and everything else in between. -- Robinson, Miles Of Music (self-released)
