Description:
This is Michael Hill`s third solo release in the years beyond his membership with Slobberbone and 12lb Test. It`s a no frills collection of singer/songwriter alt. country that straddles the fence between roots and pop. Supporting his now distinct Texas-tinged vocal tone, the Seattle-based performer has some folks familiar to his previous records here - Nancy K. Dillon (vocal), Dylan Rieck (cello) - while he handles the bulk of the remaining instrumentation. The thing that sets this one apart from those that came before is his usage of drums, courtesy of Jim King, and the inclination to rock out. While he can still pull off a heartfelt acoustic number - and proves it on the title track - he now shows an eagerness to return to the straight-forward electric roots rockers he cut his teeth on. Jumpstarting the set is the punchy and quirky "One More Song", and the quick paced twang-rocker "The Evening Land". Tying up the album is the closing duet with Dillon, the folksy and gospel-touched "My Destination", and "The Evening Land" acoustic reprise. In between Hill stretches out and puts his best song forward. -- Robinson, Miles Of Music (MPH Records)
