Description:
The sweet, rootsy pop of The Lonesomes breezes about with a curiously sinister naivet. The Portland, OR trio swings from airy to brooding with lackadaisical ease on their debut, Circling The Sun. There`s no lack of rock though, as evident with a small handful of numbers that blaze with near-psychedelic fervor. With a sound that recalls a mix between Wilco and Big Star, perhaps fronted by a twangy Wayne Coyne, this debut offers a unique soundscape filled with spacious melody and a haunting vibe. Lead vocalist and guitarist Phil Favorite possesses a somewhat tentative, slightly unnerved, hushed voice that keeps these pop-ish melodies on edge, providing the same experience for the listener. The 13 tracks on Circling The Sun were produced by Brian Berg (44 Long, John Doe, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks), who also adds keys, cello and vocals, as well as guest guitarists Peter Frajola and Caleb Miles.
