Two giants of alt. country, Iron & Wine and Calexico, converge for a masterful and moving collection of originals by Sam Beam. It was a merger that was bound to happen as Beam had originally intended on recruiting Calexico`s founding members Joey Burns and John Convertino to help record his debut release. Obviously that never came to be, and as it is we merely became enchanted with Beam`s wonderfully moving, minimalist and moody slices of audio-poetica as he did it on his own. There`s a new power here behind that now familiar voice, with Burns chiming in many sweet backing vocals, as Calexico brings an undeniably striking power and punch to his usual hush.
