Nashvillian Greg Parker proves to be something of an old school throwback on his debut EP. The 5 tracks here display countrypolitan charm with an underlying mosaic of genre stepping stones including rock-a-billy, teen-idol pop, western, roots rock and Celtic too, as evident in the acoustic-folk ballad "Molly Dear". Parker, as the sole producer, arranger, writer and performer (save some electric guitar on the blue honky-tonker "A Heart Is A Terrible Thing To Break") captures the retro tone and attitude with natural understanding and sincerity. On The Break is a fine introduction to a talent who appears to have longing in his heart and a stylish, but still very human, way of expressing it. - Robinson, Miles Of Music (Whitewall Records)
