Needing no introduction are the talented leading men of Daddy. Enter Tommy Womack and Will Kimbrough, whose partnership goes back to early-`90s Nashville; the two were beardless at the time, both pluckin` their guitars and barking in The bis-quits. Fast forward to February 18th and 19th, 2005 when these (mostly) original tracks were recorded live in Frankfort, Kentucky at the titular venue. Rumor has it the band is now banned from appearing there, but that`s another story. So that leaves this terrific set of country and gospel-tinged old-school roots and blues rockers as an historical document to be treasured. Backing the boys are keys-man John Deaderick (Mindy Smith, Steve Forbert, Patty Griffin), bassist Dave Jacques (Amy Rigby, Greg Trooper, Elizabeth Cook, Jeff Black, John Prine) and drummer Paul Griffith (Duane Jarvis, Allison Moorer), all of whom could compile a studio credit that would take a day to read. Kimbrough and Womack volley back and forth between their own compositions and close the set with a couple of covers: The Faces` classic sing-a-long "Oh La La" and a gospel dirge, "Gloryland", a stinging delta blues version of an old Consolers number. -- Robinson, Miles Of Music (Cedar Creek Music)
