Perfect Halves is the 2nd release from the roots-fueled sextet from Minneapolis. Recorded in an old brownstone church - Sacred Heart Studios in Duluth, recording home to Low, Haley Bonar and Bellwether - the moving, well harmonied vocals here are augmented by the lingering tones of distant and tremoloed guitars, haunting organs and a warm rhythm section that takes it easy. The slow, pained notes hang from the hollow space like smoke in a still room, a held breath when you catch sight of a past lover, or a long lost feeling that only occurs in tandem with a blissful thought. Chris Riemenschneider of the Star Tribune fittingly refers to the "brooding Americana/alt-country" bands record as an "elegant, wintery sophomore album." Its ability to chill is equally matched by the bands ability to add a mere twist of hope. (Free Election Records)
