Despite its title Donal Hinely has made a meditative album on searching for positive change. Using touchstone subjects as broken dreams, lost love, and kitchen conversations he seductively tells a story that is best summed up in the album`s title track: "My neighbors a liberal. I just want to live free." His flowing voice is caressed by the seductive music provided by David Henry (who again produced), Will Kimbrough, Steve Bowman, and Fats Kaplin. Blue State Boy is smooth, elegant charmer. -- Jeff Weiss, Miles of Music (Atom Records)
